Situated by the Torniojoki river on a naturally beautiful area, Lappea is a village getting its livelihood from tourism. Situation next to Swedish border has brought its own special tone to local people lives. Name of the village Väylänpää comes from a bank, along which local people could wade across the Torniojoki-river when it was low waters. From Lappea it´s easy to reach Sweden and visit for example Pajala town, which is not far away. In Pajala there is an airport.
Accommodation
Villages are visited every summer by fishermen. Lappea and Väylänpää offer cosy cottages to stay, services for caravan folk and professional fishing guides for salmon fishing. Activities
Summertime activities are salmon fishing, hiking, white rapid rafting, adventurous rafting and boating on the lakes and rivers. Laestadius- hiking route is aimed to be tourist attraction to the area (Sieppijävi-Lappea) as soon as completed. Lappean Loma offers possibility to try traditional smoke sauna and in wintertime overnights at rustic forest cottages, snowmobile,- husky,- and reindeer safaris. Nature
Riverside villages Lappea and Väylänpää are situated by the great salmonriver Tornio- joki, which is also border between Finland and Sweden. This river is the biggest still freely flowing river in whole Europe. Villages have various, open agricultural landscapes. Landscape is covered with Lappish forest, riverside vegetation and wetlands.
