Church

The parish of Igrejinha, which has a population of around 824, was established shortly after the foundation of its church, dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Consolação (Our Lady of Consolation). The castle, known as Castelo do Mau Vizinho (bad neighbour), is a ruin that has traces dating from of the Roman period; its function would have been associated with a sanctuary. The Aldeia Nova (new village) grew up around the church and records date back to 1758. Over the centuries, the economy of the parish has been based on cereals, cattle, cork and olives. The construction of the Divor dam in the 1960s contributed to providing the water supply for the village´s population, as well as for the population of Évora.
